CISF security personnel observed early this mornjing suspicious movements of a passenger who came from Kuwait and later intercepted him in a bathroom at the IGI terminal.

Officials said the person, identified as Nadim Ali of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was seen entering the bathroom on his arrival.

Soon afterwards, CISF personnel saw Ali leaving the restroom and an airline staffer approaching the area but as soon as he saw security personnel around he beat a hasty retreat.

CISF personnel found two wallets lying unattended in the bathroom and Ali came back to claim them saying he had forgotten them.

When the wallets were checked, 16 gold biscuits weighing 1.8 kgs was recovered.

‘Customs officials at the airport were informed about the matter and Ali was handed over to them. They are investigating and we are also looking for the involvement of airline staffer in this case,’ a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson said.

Officials said they suspect a smuggling ring and that the airline staffer may be in connivance with the passenger as he rushed to the bathroom to fetch the wallets containing gold biscuits which Ali had left there as there are no CCTV cameras in the bathroom area.
