One person was shot dead while another was grievously injured when a group of men shot the victim over establishing supremacy in electricity theft in the Meet Nagar area of North-east Delhi’s Shakti Nagar on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Gaurav while the injured has been identified as Ajay. Two cases have been registered in connection with the firing incident, said senior officers of the North-east district. Meanwhile, police have identified five to six persons who are involved, said sources.
The incident was reported at around 4.35 pm in Meet Nagar area when Gaurav who was having rivalry with one lady identified as Dr Sudesh was shot at by her aides.

According to an officer privy to the investigation, Dr Sudesh and Gaurav were together in the electricity theft for some time. However, they parted ways when Dr Sudesh started her own gang. In order to establish supremacy in electricity theft in the area, Gaurav and Dr Sudesh often fought. They have been fighting for the past three to four days. This turned into a blood bath on Monday.

At around 4.35 pm, one of Dr Sudesh’s men came near Gaurav’s house and pumped bullets inside him. In retaliation, aides of Gaurav fired and one of the bullets hit Ajay, servant of Dr Sudesh, added the officer.

One of the locals made the PCR call after which police rushed them to a nearby hospital where Gaurav was declared brought dead while Ajay is stated to be in a critical condition.

“We have registered two FIRs in the case. One is under Section 302 (Murder) and the other case is under Section 307 (Attempt to murder). Further investigation is on,” said Ajit Kumar Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-east). Police are scanning the CCTV footage of the area. They are also questioning family and locals of the area to know more about the electricity theft mafia which is sprouting in the area.
