All government offices around Parliament House will remain closed during the first half of the day on Wednesday due to the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Pranab Mukherjee.
‘In view of the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect in the Central Hall of Parliament at 11.30 am tomorrow and traffic restrictions around Parliament House, it has been decided that government offices located in the buildings in and around North Block and South Block would remain closed for the first half tomorrow,’ an official release said.
The buildings include South Block, North Block, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, Rail Bhavan, Krishi Bhavan, Udyog Bhavan and the hutments around Parliament House, it said.
Mukherjee will be administered the oath of office as the country’s 13th President tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Metro services, during the swearing in ceremony of the President, will also remain closed for public from 9-11 am on Wednesday. The three Metro stations which will remain closed are Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan (on Line-2 i.e, HUDA City Centre to Jahangirpuri) and Khan Market (on Line-6 i.e, Central Secretariat to Badarpur). However, interchange will be allowed at Central Secretariat station. Normal services will be restored at 11 am. The Metro services at all other stations will run as per normal schedule.
The swearing-in ceremony of the President will be held in the forenoon on 25 July at the Parliament House. There will be a number of ceremonial activities in and around Rashtrapati Bhawan and the Parliament House on this occasion where a number of important dignitaries including diplomats and the media are scheduled to attend the ceremony at the designated time.
In this regard, elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been made to ensure traffic circulation, pedestrian movement, safety of visitors as well as that all the dignitaries and invitees reach the venue on the time and the function is held smoothly.
Motorists and general public are, therefore, requested to avoid using the following roads between 10 am to 2 pm:
