The event, attempts to re-live the life of Ramkinkar Baij, one of the pioneers of modern Indian sculpture and a key figure of contextual modernism. This presentation for the first time brings together the finest artworks and theatre performance from artists Anuradha Kapur, Vivan Sundaram, Santanu Bose, Rimli Bhattacharya and Aditee Biswas.
Vivan Sundaram’s work on Ramkinkar’s life portrays its relevance in the 21st century India. The vibrant combination of Anuradha Kapur Vivan Sundaram, Santanu Bose, Rimli Bhattacharya and Aditee Biswas’s work bring alive the exuberant performance that takes the audience on a live journey.
The artist have synthesised a diverse range of forms, media and genres into a composite whole. The entire project took over two years and unfolds at different locations at IGNCA - IGNCA lawns, Twin Art Gallery, Amphitheatre and Mati Ghar. The event derives its title from 400 sculptures of Baij and the nine letters of his first name.
Explaining the objective behind organising this event, Dipali Khanna, Member Secretary, IGNCA, “It gives me immense pleasure to bring this extraordinary piece of artwork. The entire sequence highlights the significance of Ramkinkar’s life in today’s scenario which will invoke historical resonance of space, time and music.”
This two hours sculpture installation and theatre event unveils the transition from a traditional to modern movement lead by one of the most remarkable original sculptor of India will be running from 25th March to 15th April 2015. This event will be followed by an exhibition of sculpture installations.
