Of food, fog and healthy eating

Update: 2013-12-22 21:32 GMT
Delhi winters mean barbeques, house parties, bonfires and awesome food and all the winter finery.

But as a slight deviation to the usual winter food over-dose, a recent event in the Capital was all about healthy eating. Bagrry’s unveiled oats for India, a new SuperGrain innovation. Elaborating on the nutritional benefits, dietician Dr. Ritika Samaddar said at the event, ‘Oats are rich in a bulky, viscous type of soluble fiber, called Beta-Glucan. Consuming just 3 grams of soluble oat fiber per day typically lowers total cholesterol by 8-23%. Soluble fibers in oats also helps to reduce hypertension and consequently reduce the need for anti-hypertensive medication. ‘Dishing out some wholesome and nutritious oats recipes using oats, chef Nita Mehta said, ‘We are all aware about the nutritional benefits of oats. Cooking oats have always been a big challenge for people.

However, Oats for India is an innovative offering giving consumers a host of cooking options.’
And taking off from there completely - here are two not-so-new but still pretty cool restaurants we tried out this week.

Thai High

Located at almost a blink-and-miss point at Mehrauli, Thai High is one of the must visit restaurants in Delhi. Firstly the restaurant has an incredible ambience and a view to die for, second, the food is also very classy. Dishing out some great picks from an extensive Asian menu, Thai High, earlier known as Thai Wok is back with swanky new interiors and a new menu. We tried a very nice Tom Yum soup and don’t miss the Vegetable Spring Rolls.

They also have this special chilli paste that can be used as a dipping sauce, try that with the starters. The Thai High special chicken satay is a must try and also some very good Pad Thai noodles.

With the fog rolling in we missed the incredible view of the Qutub Minar but on the nice winter evening Thai High was the perfect place to sit and chill with friends over some nice wine with the angeethi blazing next to you.

They have some mean plans up their sleeves for New Years’ so head over! A meal for two would set you back by Rs 2000 and be rest assured you will go back for more!

Blue Water Grille

One of the best known restaurants in the Rajouri Garden area, Blue Water Grille was also on our ‘to-eat’ list this week. Known for its sea food, the restaurant has a live kitchen that allows the guests to enjoy the great view. Blue Water Grille is the perfect family restaurant so if you have one of those extended family dates planned, head over.  It also features a rooftop lounge and a private dining room. We started with a sea food soup which we loved and the chilli crabs were excellent.

The chef offered a fun platter of basa cooked in three different sauces for us - the lemon, peri peri and a tangy tamarind. Make sure you try their prawns as well. If sea food is not your thing - no worries! Blue Water Grille has an extensive menu filled with your regular meat dishes, take your pick.

They also have an impressive bar so pick the right drink with your food and sit back, enjoy. A meal for two with alcohol comes to about Rs 1800.
