As per the Delhi police data, cases of human trafficking have gone down since 2012. In 2015 from January 1 till October 31, 155 cases of human trafficking have been reported while in 2014, 200 cases were reported. This shows that there has been a decrease of 22.5 per cent. In 2012, 186 cases were reported and in 2013, 210 cases were reported.
Out of the total number of trafficked victims, 335 men and 158 women were rescued by the cops in 2015 till October 31. Meanwhile, in 2014, 654 men and 159 women were rescued. This suggests that 48.7 per cent men and merely 0.6 per cent women have been rescued by the police. In 2012, 768 men and 185 women were rescued while in 2013, 872 men and 160 women were rescued by the police. In 2015 till October 31, out of the total victims rescued by the police, 306 were minor boys and 89 were minor girls while in 2014, 645 minor boys and 117 minor girls were rescued by the cops.
Rishi Kant, the founder of a Delhi based NGO said: “The trafficked girls are usually forced into prostitution which makes it difficult for the authorities to rescue them while the boys are employed in factories so it is comparatively easy to rescue them. Human trafficking is an extensively organised crime and it is difficult to crack it down. With at least a few cases being reported, it shows that people have become aware of their rights.”
In 2015, from January 1 till October 31, 457 Indians have been rescued while 33 Nepalese have been rescued in the national Capital. In 2014, 5 Nepalese were rescued which shows that more Nepalese trafficked victims have been rescued by the police.
On the other hand, 82 men and 19 women have been arrested under sections of trafficking in 2015 till October 31, while in 2014, 168 men and 31 women were arrested.
