NSA, Foreign Secy take stock of India’s relief efforts

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar on Friday landed in Kathmandu to review the rescue operations being carried out by the Indian relief agencies.

For the past few days, angry over the alleged slow pace and inefficiency of relief efforts, survivors attacked and looted relief convoys in some parts of the country. India has the largest rescue team currently working in Nepal. China’s is the second biggest contingent.

Ever since the devastating quake ravaged the Himalayan country on April 25, diplomatic aid started  pouring in with neighbouring countries leaving no stone unturned to prove their ‘priorities’ for Nepal. IAF doctors and disaster management experts have been working on a war-footing in the rescue operations.

Doval, who went there to assess the rescue and relief efforts launched under ‘Operation Maitri’, said: “We are here to oversee how the NDRF is assisting the Nepalese government and Army with total dedication and commitment.” Later, they conducted an aerial survey and directed all Indian agencies to carry out relief and rescue operations in full swing in the quake -ravaged nation.
