Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to double its parking rates beginning March 2013. According to a statement issued by Delhi Metro: ‘This was in accordance with the proposed hike in parking rates by different civic agencies in Delhi.’
These revised parking rates will also be applicable for Vishwavidyalaya and Patel Chowk stations. Vishwavidyalaya parking lot is used mostly by Delhi University students, while Patel Chowk is frequented by office goers. Metro stations in Delhi currently have different parking rates. The monthly package for cars and two/three-wheelers will be increased from Rs 625 to Rs 1000, Rs 300 to Rs 475 respectively, while the fees for cycle parking has been hiked from Rs 30 to Rs 40 for cycle parking.
Commuter Ashish Jha said: ‘Till last month we were paying Rs 625 per month for parking pass. Now all of a sudden, we have to pay Rs 1000 which is almost double the earlier rate.’ Another commuter Arun Rawat complained about mismanagement in parking lots also.
Anuj Dayal, CPRO of DMRC said: ‘We will ensure that parking contractors issue monthly parking passes only to those who commute daily. Till now, commuters had to fill in a form to get the monthly parking pass, it was still at the discretion of the contractor. Passes will be given only after authorization from DMRC against the smart card travel details.’
