Notorious auto gang busted

With the arrest of a notorious gang the police claim to have solved 11 previously unsolved cases. The gang was involved in auto thefts and burglaries in the area of south Delhi. During the operation, the accused had also assaulted a police officer and injured him severely. The Five accused including the gang leader were arrested and two stolen cars have been recovered from their possession.

On 3 April, two police officials had intercepted the gang during routine patrolling duty. It was during this interception that two members of the gang were apprehended and in the resulting chaos four members managed to slip away after injuring ASI islamuddin who was one of the two police officials.

In order to apprehend the remaining gang members a team under the supervision of ACP Subodh Goswami was constituted. On 5th of April, the police team conducted a raid at Sultanpur Estate and apprehended 3 accused who were sitting in a Honda City car. During verification, the Honda City Car was also found to be stolen . A gang member by the name of Sethi who was previously involved in more than 7 cases of snatching and auto theft is still absconding and efforts are being made to arrest him. During interrogation, accused Rohit alias Chhotu disclosed the name of his other associates. He further disclosed that he used to target old model Honda City cars and open the same with duplicate keys. Then, they used the same in committing burglaries in shops by pulling the shutters with the help of iron wire and car.
