Notice to MoD, Kashmir police over killing of two youths

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the secretary, union ministry of defence and superintendent of police, District Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir calling for reports within two weeks into the incident of firing by Army personnel resulting in killing of two youths and injury to two others in Chattergam area on 3 November, 2014. The youths were traveling in a car and as claimed by the Army did not pay heed to signals to stop at the barriers set up by security forces.

The home ministry on Wednesday has also sought a report from Jammu and Kashmir government on the killing of these two youth allegedly by Army personnel in Budgam district. In a communication, the ministry asked the state government to give details about the incident, how did it happen and what action has been taken in the aftermath of the killing of the two youth. This incident evoked massive protests in the area. Two youth were also injured in the incident that led to widespread condemnation from various quarters, including the mainstream political parties.
