The Delhi government on Friday issued notice to a city nursing home for allegedly denying treatment to a teenager who was grievously injured in a scuffle. According to an official statement, teenager Rajat Menon was brought to the Malik Nursing Home after he was badly injured and left unconscious following a scuffle with two shopkeepers in East Delhi on June 29. However, after being taken to the nursing home, he was allegedly denied treatment. The nursing home cited unsatisfactory reasons. Menon later succumbed to the injuries. Following the incident, the Delhi government issued notice to the nursing home and sought its explanation. The government also asked why the nursing home’s registration should not be cancelled.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Delhi Police over reports of delayed action in a case where a boy died after a scuffle. “Allegedly, the police are in connivance with the sellers and are being given a cut from the profit they make. The paan masala sellers even had molested the local women but police did not register the case,” said a statement from the commission.
Meanwhile, more complaints of denial to critically injured patients are coming up against the hospital. Narrating the ordeal, Suman Kumar spoke about his five-year-old daughter’s experience in the same hospital. “My daughter was severely injured and my wife rushed her to this hospital. They refused to admit her and she died of excessive blood loss,” he said.
