The Delhi high court on Thursday issued notices to the central government and the Election Commission on a PIL which has sought a court-monitored probe by an SIT or the CBI into the funds allegedly received by the Congress party and the BJP from UK-based Vedanta Resources and Indian PSUs. The court, however, for the time being did not issue notices to both the political parties.

'Let respondents one (Ministry of Home Affairs) and two (Election Commission) file their reply within two weeks. List this matter after three weeks on 4 Feb,' said a bench of justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Indermeet Kaur. The PIL, filed by NGO Association for Democratic Reforms and former government Secretary E A S Sarma, has alleged that various Indian laws have been violated by the Congress and the BJP by receiving fundings from UK-based Vedanta Resources. The PIL has alleged that the parties have violated the Representation of People's Act 1951 and Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) by taking donations from government companies and foreign sources, which is prohibited under both the legislations.
