UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi countered the Bhartiya Janta Party on corruption and said that it is fighting the corruption for namesake and shielding their corrupt leaders.
Without naming any BJP leader, Gandhi said that it is not the BJP but Congress which is fighting corruption in real sense and had acted against corrupt leaders. ‘We have acted against corrupt leaders but they have shielded their leaders involved in corruption,’ said Gandhi in Shimla.
Gandhi was referring to BJP national president Nitin Gadkari against whom allegations of corruption leveled and questions were raised about his business empire and company Purti Group. BJP has been fully backing Gadkari after he offered to be investigated by any agency.
Gandhi counted on efforts made by UPA government to fight corruption said that RTI was passed and Lokpal was passed by Lok Sabha but BJP obstructed it in Rajya Sabha. ‘BJP is actually fighting corruption on namesake,’ added Gandhi.
She said central govt never practiced discriminatory behavior against anyone or any state but despite of funds being provided to the Himachal including Rs. 4000 crore to Shimla city under JNNURM scheme, no development was done.
‘UPA govt is worried about price hike and understand that people are facing tough conditions but efforts are on to deal with it but state government should also come forward to deal with the situation,’ said Gandhi.
‘Had the BJP government in the state provided three cylinders like other congress ruled states or has it reduced VAT rates to give respite to the people, the answer is no,’ said Gandhi adding that had the BJP thought of people, it would have done so.
