The water samples in North DMC area are most polluted in the city. It was revealed in the reports of water samples picked by Delhi Jal Board (DJB) independently and also by joint teams of DJB and local civic bodies. The samples from Narela, Civil Lines and Karolbagh zones were found to be ‘most’ polluted.
The water samples from various parts of the city were tested at two levels - some samples were picked up by DJB and some are picked up by joint teams of DJB and local civic bodies. The DJB pikced up 176 samples from across the city from 1 April to 20 April of which 25 samples were found unfit for drinking and 151 samples were fit for drinking.
Among the unfit samples, all 25 were from North DMC area of which 20 were from Narela zone and five were from Karol Bagh zone.
In the same period, the joint teams of DJB and three municipal corporations picked up 662 water samples from across the city of which 622 samples were fit for drinking but 40 were unfit for consumption.
Among the 40 unfit samples 37 were from North DMC area and three were from South DMC and East DMC area. Among the 37 failed samples the maximum 20 samples were unfit from Nareal zone,10 from Karolbagh zone and seven from Civil Lines zone. In Narela Zone the joint team had picked up 70 samples, 75 from Karolbagh and 17 from Civil Lines zone.
Both DJB and North DMC blamed each other for failure of the water samples. The corporation officers blamed poor maintenance of water pipelines and DJB reacted with a complaint of poor sanitation.
