Seeking to curb the menace of stray dogs North Delhi Municipal Corporation will soon begin a special sterilisation drive with a target of sterilising 1,000 canines a day, its Mayor on Monday said.

“A special sterilisation drive would be started very soon in which 1,000 dogs would be sterilised every day. Our eventual target would be at least 1.5 lakh dogs per year,” North Delhi Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar said. According to NDMC, a total of 9,283 stray dogs have been caught and sterilised during January 1, 2015 to September 28 this year. A total of 495 dogs have been sterilised and immunised during last August, it said. “From April-July this year 2,459 dogs have been sterilised and immunised,” it added. “Results of this drive would show after a few years but if such step is not taken, population of dogs would grow uncontrollably,” Nayyar said.
