In a bid to expedite slow pace of development work and generate employment, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to award contract to engineering diploma holders for carrying out development projects upto Rs 10 lakh.

The matter was discussed in the standing committee meeting of north Delhi municipal corporation on Wednesday. Directing the commissioner, standing committee chairman Mohan Prasad Bhardwaj said, ‘Long pending works with low budgets awaiting immediate attention should be awarded to the diploma holder civil and electrical engineers.’ The chairman informed that this initiative of the corporation would ‘surely’ expedite the long pending work in the civic agency. Moreover, it would help in generation of employment of those in search of work, but do not have license. ‘Opportunities would be given to the new lot of students, aspiring to work with the corporation,’ said Mr Bhardwaj.

The civic body has exempted those who do not hold a license, but would give low budget projects to the young lot, said the Chairman of the standing committee.
