North Delhi mayor Azad Singh on Thursday said that the corporation has completed over 90 per cent de-silting of drains but the poor work of Public Works Department (PWD) flood is watering down the efforts made. He even instructed the officers of the corporation to click pictures of PWD drains and raise the issue in the meeting with Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna .
'We have clicked pictures of overflowing drains of PWD and they will be sent to the Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Nobody can prevent wasterlogging in the city if PWD does not clean its big drains as rain water will flood the city,' Singh said.
The corporation has 199 drains of over four feet width and depth and around 1,000 smaller drains to clean with.
The NDMC commissioner P K Gupta also affirmed the views of the mayor. 'We have completed over 90 per cent of our work but other agencies are not working properly,' Gupta said.
The three municipal corporations in the city have 2,630 small drains and 1,801 bigger drains to clean, while PWD has the responsibility of 899 drains. The flood department of Delhi government own 18 big drains which finally open in the river Yamuna.
