North Delhi mayor Mira Aggarwal has constituted a committee of to improve the functioning of vigilance department of the corporation.
‘The committee will find ways to decentralise vigilance department in the light of guidelines issued by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). Minor complaints will be handled at department level,’ said Aggarwal. The seven-member committee consisting of four councillors and two senior officers will be chaired by the chairman of the standing committee.
The decision was taken at special meeting of the house in which the members blamed the vigilence department for slow processing of cases.
As per the data, 306 cases for regular departmental action (RDA) were received . Of which, 47 were of non vigilance nature. Over 146 cases are pending before director of inquiry (DOI) and 40 before special investigative officer.
‘We have disposed off 40 cases and reset 60 suspensions this year,’ said P K Gupta, commissioner, North DMC.
On the deployment of tainted officers in sensitive posts, he said it is due to scarcity of staff. He, however, assured the house of an improved system at the earliest.
