Normalcy returning to protest-hit Jammu, Army withdrawn

 The situation is returning to normal in Jammu,  after four days of violent protests over the removal of posters of Khalistani militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in which one man was killed. The <g data-gr-id="20">Army,which</g> was deployed in various parts of Jammu, was called off on Sunday morning.

"The Army has been called off from Jammu city. We have called off operation 'Jan Shanti' to restore normalcy and peace in the city," said Lt Col Manish Mehta, PRO Defence. He added that no untoward incident was reported on Sunday. 

Earlier, the Army was deployed in various parts of the <g data-gr-id="18">city,</g> after the Sikh youth  –killed in clashes with the police was cremated. The incident led to violent protests, making the state government accept most the demands of the agitating community, including a magisterial probe and transfer of district police chief.

The Army carried out a 'Flag March' in the disturbed areas of Jammu, including Miran Sahib, Satwari, <g data-gr-id="22">Digiana</g>, RS Pura, Talab Tillo, Bakshi Nagar and <g data-gr-id="23">Rehari</g> this morning as security was stepped up in view of the 31st death anniversary of Khalistani militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Quick reactions teams (QRTs) of Army were also deployed to check the protesters.
