A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against Gopal Goyal Kanda, main accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, by the Rohini district court on Thursday, while co-accused Aruna Chadha was sent to 14 days of judicial custody. Both Kanda and Chadha have been booked for abetment to suicide in the suicide case of former MDLR airlines air-hostess Geetika Sharma.
Kanda, a former Haryana minister is absconding. He is the chairman and managing director of MDLR, while Chadha is a senior manager in the company.
Kanda had raised an anticipatory bail plea at the Delhi High Court, but the court has reserved its order in the case. Earlier, the Rohini district court had dismissed his anticipatory bail plea.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Devender Kumar Jangala issued the NBW against Kanda and fixed 24 August as the date for hearing in the case. Aruna Chadha, who was arrested on 8 August has been sent to judicial custody till 30 August. Twenty-three-year-old Geetika Sharma was found dead at her north Delhi's Ashok Vihar residence on 5 August. Her suicide note blamed harassment by Kanda and Chadha as the reason for her death. While, both Kanda and Chadha have been booked for abetment to suicide, Kanda has been accused of criminal intimidation while Chadha has been booked for criminal conspiracy.
Geetika, a former flight attendant in the MDLR Airlines, was moved to another company owned by Kanda, after the airlines ceased to operate in 2009. According to Geetika's brother, Gaurav Sharma, his sister was being mentally harassed by Kanda and Chadha.
DELHI POLICE TAKE KIN INTO CUSTODY
Delhi Police today took into custody from Sirsa a relative of absconding former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda, embroiled in air-hostess Geetika Sharma’s suicide case.
Sources said that Bunty Bansal, son-in-law of Kanda’s brother-in-law, was taken away after being questioned by the police team that was headed by a DCP rank officer, in connection with a call he had made to Nepal yesterday.
A nearly 25-member Delhi Police team swooped on the Sirsa residence of the suspect in the wee hours and after brief questioning took him into custody.
Amid reports that Kanda may have slipped into Nepal, the sources said that police questioned Bansal, who is a contractor, about the nearly 40-minute call to somewhere in Nepal.
Initially, the Delhi Police had reached the house of Bansal’s associate in whose name the SIM card was said to be registered.
When questioned, he told the team that though the SIM was in his name, but it had always been in Bansal’s possession after which they landed at the latter’s house at Sirsa.
A week back too, Delhi police team had raided various establishments, including the palatial residence of Gopal Kanda at Sirsa.
On both occasions, police choose the wee hours to conduct the raids.
Kanda, an Independent MLA from Sirsa, has been booked in Geetika Sharma suicide case by the Delhi Police.
Sharma (23), a former air hostess with Kanda’s now defunct MDLR airline, alleged in her suicide note last week that she was ending her life due to harassment by Kanda and MDLR official Aruna Chaddha.
Kanda and Chaddha had denied the allegations.
Geetika was found hanging in her flat in north west Delhi on August 5.
Kanda, an Independent MLA who held Home, Urban Bodies and Industry and Commerce portfolios, resigned the following day.
On August 14, Delhi Police had opposed Kanda’s bail plea in the Delhi High Court saying it needed to quiz him to find the missing computers and other crucial evidence.
EX-MINISTER MAY BE BOOKED FOR RAPE
Gopal Goyal Kanda could be booked for rape and having unnatural sex with Geetika Sharma who was found dead at her residence on 5 August. Her suicide note mentioned harassment by Kanda as the reason for her death. According to sources, the post-mortem report of Geetika has confirmed that she was habituated to sex. The post-mortem was conducted by a team of four doctors including one lady doctor.
Earlier police had told the district court that Aruna Chadha, the co-accused in Geetika’s suicide had confirmed that Geetika had become pregnant and she had gone in for an abortion at a Lajpat Nagar clinic.
The interrogation of Mandeep, another MDLR employee and Aruna had revealed the intimate relationship between Kanda and Geetika.
