Noida to be garbage-free by 2014: Authorities

Noida Authority chairman Rama Raman on Thursday said his New Year resolution is to make Noida city garbage-free. He sought public cooperation to make city clean and green as he felt that without public support city cannot get rid of garbage.

Public suggestions have been sought in making the city garbage-free, he said at a press conference, adding a private company will be hired to collect garbage from doorsteps and dump it at a dumping site. Noting that fighting corruption was his top priority, he said efforts were being made promote online work and impart transparency so that people do not have to come to the authority to pay their installments. They can pay online and this will reduce the corruption.

Raman said tenders above Rs 2 crores are being allotted through e-tendering, which has reduced corruption level.He, however, said that he was getting pressure to abandon the e-tendering system. The CEO said metro rail projects, traffic and transport projects would be taken up on top priority to provide traffic snarl-free drive and efficient public transport.
