Protests have started against the recent hike in toll rates of Delhi Noida Direct (DND) Flyway. On Monday Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA) on came out against the hike in DND flyway toll rates and threatened to hold a protest demonstration if the increase was not rolled back by 19 November.
The Association has also written to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav seeking his intervention in withdrawal of the toll hike.
From the initial toll charges of Rs 8 per entry of car, toll charges were recently hiked from Rs 22 to Rs 25 per entry and for bikes from Rs 11 to Rs 12 per entry.
‘The rates were hiked without consultation of the public representatives and associations. We have sent an ultimatum to concerned authorities for roll back and protest with tooth and nail till,’ said N P Singh, president of the association. The toll charges have been hiked to Rs 25 per entry of car from Saturday.
Noida citizens are highly agitated over the uncalled for and unjustified hike in toll charges. Several associations have extended support to FONRWA to organize agitational programmes, like sit-ins, blockade of traffic on DND flyway’, said A.N.Dhawan,Chief advisor,FONRWA.
FONRWA has been pleading with the Noida Authority for the last three years to take over the flyway under their own charge and make it toll-free in public interest’, said Dhawan. The agency (NTBCL) has already earned far more than the capital expenditure incurred by them in building, development and running of the flyway from the toll charges and hoardings etc,’ claimed Dhawan.
