Noida Authority gets a breather in Rs 1,000 crore scam probe

In a surprise move, the state government transferred the probe of  the  Rs 1000 crore construction scam in Noida Authority to Crime Branch Crime Investigation Department (CB CID) on Friday. The move will reportedly give much needed relief to Yadav Singh, Engineer-in-Chief of Noida Authority, and Ramendra, Project Engineer, who were also placed under suspension for their alleged involvement in the scam.

‘The probe into scam in which a case was registered against Yadav Singh and others in Noida has been transferred into the hands of Meerut Sector of CB CID by the govt,’ confirmed home secretary Ashok Kumar. It may be mentioned that the primary investigation into the above scam conducted by a committee under the guidance of Chief Project Engineer Rajeev Yadav after SP came to power revealed that Yadav Singh, the blue eyed boy of former CM Mayawati during his tenure had signed bonds for Rs 954 crore construction work in just eight working days and the contracts were also awarded to contractors without bidding. Interestingly the entire annual budget of the Noida Authority is only about Rs 2,000 crore. Probe reportedly pointed that the work was allotted to the contractors before the bidding and by the time the bid was open to public, over 60% of the work, involving underground electrification from Sector 14 A to Sector 6 and conversion of 33 KV was already completed.

The Noida Authority was alerted regarding this by RITES, which was appointed to check the quality of construction work in Noida, but was ignored under the manipulations of the above said officials.
