Update: 2013-05-25 23:45 GMT
The national capital continued to bear the brunt of the heat wave with the mercury settling at 45 degree Celsius on Friday, and the weathermen have predicted no respite from scorching heat in days to come.

The day temperature was recorded five notches above normal level at 45 degree  Celcius, slightly down from Thursday’s 45.7 degree Celcius which was the highest for the month of May in a decade. The minimum temperature was registered at 29.5 degree Celcius which was three notches above normal and 1.9 degree below from Thursday's 31.4 degree Celcius.

Humidity level hovered between 45 and 22 per cent.

According to an Indian Meteorological Department official, there would be no respite from the heat wave conditions.

The Met office has predicted a clear sky for Saturday and the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain at 45 and 31 degrees Celsius respectively.

The searing heat on Friday pushed the power demand in the city to over 5,200 mega watt, the highest of the year.

‘The maximum power demand was recorded at 5214 MW in the city on Friday, breaching Thursday’s record demand of 5,055 MW,’ a power department official said.

The rise in power demand triggered outages in many areas of city for up to three hours. Last year, maximum power demand had gone beyond 5,600 MW.

The demand is likely to break last year’s record.
