The three municipal corporations in the city may have gone against the outgoing Lieutenant Governor Tejendar Khanna’s proposal to hike parking fees but Delhi residents haven’t got any relief from the move.
Parking contractors are charging much above the rates proposed by the LG. The charges go further up during weekends.

According to the hike proposed by Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority to the three municipal corporations through Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for 2013-14, apart from a hike in parking charges 50 per cent additional congestion charges was to be imposed during weekends.
But the BJP ruled municipal corporations rejected the hike in parking rates including congestion charges fearing public anger in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

‘The parking contractors charge between Rs 80 to Rs 100 in Central Market area of Lajpat Nagar weekends for parking a car for up to four hours . On other days, they charge around Rs 40 to Rs 60,’ said Lajpat Nagar  councillor Kavita Malhotra.

The new parking policy had proposed Rs 10 for 30 minutes, Rs 20 for one hour, Rs 50 for three hours and Rs 20 on every additional hour apart from a 50 per cent congestion charge on weekends.
