Delhi police is likely to file an FIR in the mysterious death case of former union minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda.

Recently the sub divisional magistrate completed his investigation into the case and handed over the findings to the police who have revisited the suite at Leela Palace Hotel in south Delhi where Sunanda had died.

Alok Sharma, the SDM was conducting the inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC to inquire into the death of Sunanda, as she died within seven years of marriage. Sharma was conducting the investigation with the help of Delhi police, CFSL and a team of AIIMS medical board.

A police official privy to the probe told Millennium Post, ‘Almost nine months after the mysterious death of Sunanda, the SDM had filed a conclusion report and handed over the case to Delhi police to proceed with the investigation.’

‘We might file an FIR in the mysterious death under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown person,’ a police official said.

Senior police officials, however, denied that the team has found fresh evidence in suite No. 345 of Hotel Leela Palace where the couple were staying since 16 January. Sunanda’s body was found the next day.

‘No fresh evidence were found from the suite. All the evidence including broken glass were found on the very first day of investigation. There is no fresh development after revisiting the crime scene,’ the official requesting anonymity said.

If sources are to be believed, it was the AIIMS medical board which was keen to revisit the crime scene. After the conclusion report was submitted by the SDM on Wednesday, a CFSL team, members of AIIMS medical board and Delhi police officials revisited the spot.

In September a new post-mortem examination report was filed by the Forensic Medicine Department of AIIMS in which the board has reiterated its old stand that Sunanda died of poisoning.
The report specifically mentioned: ‘No overdose of Alprax’. The fresh report also states that Sunanda was healthy and had no ailments related to heart, kidney, liver or lungs. Also, the new report clearly specified that
Sunanda was not suffering from LUPUS.
