No marks to be deducted for Functional English in best of four, says Delhi University
In four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP), it has been decided that functional English will be equivalent to other English course. Earlier two per cent was deducted if functional English was taken amongst the best of four subjects. However, this time no marks will be deducted,’ said Malay Neerav, Joint Dean Students’ Welfare, DU.
Bringing respite to a lot of aspirants, this step by the university will increase the number of admissions into the English Literature course.
‘I am happy that no marks will be deducted. Cut off are already high. This is a relief. Now, even students who have done functional English can study English honours course and pursue their dreams,’ said an aspirant of DU.
‘The case is different for FYUP. In FYUP, the pressure is already too much and moreover, the level has also increased. So, the students who haven’t studied core English will have numerous problems. It will be very difficult for them to cope with up the subjects in English honours. Though the number of seats will be increased, and more students would be admitted but in long run it will prove to be hard,’ said Shweta Sachdeva, English Professor, Miranda College.
