No domestic servant & employee verification forms in police stations

When there is such an upsurge regarding the rape of a 26-year-old financial analyst from Gurgaon, it has come to light that the police are not maintaining domestic servant/employee verification forms. People coming for it have to run from pillar to post and the police are not taking serious measures to bring about an improvement.

The situation becomes worse once the verification form is submitted in the police station. Almost 94% are left unverified as the police are not able to confirm the applicants’ whereabouts and trace their places of origin in the remote corners of the country.

On Thursday, Millennium Post visited as many as 20 police stations, covering all 11 districts in the national Capital. Surprisingly, in most of the police stations the reporter was made to run around for a verification form.

At Sarita Vihar and Govindpuri police stations, the reporter was first asked to visit a particular room where the official directed her to visit another room. Somehow, after a while she managed to get hold of a verification form.

Interestingly, when the reporter visited Kapashera police station in south-west district, the woman duty officer denied to give the verification form and said: “Please fill the verification form online.” The officer advised her to go to a nearby cyber cafe to seek help.

Police personnel at Shahdara, Gokulpuri, Harsh Vihar police stations said that they do not have verification forms and asked the reporter to come after a couple of hours. However, the official at Mansarovar Park police station said: “I only have a single copy of the verification form. Go and get it photocopied from outside and return the original.”

When the reporter visited Mandawali police station and alleged that she resides in Chandar Vihar, the officer sent her to another police station (Madhu Vihar) alleging that she does not reside in its jurisdiction. The verification forms do not mention any jurisdiction, however, nor any serial number.
According to the data mentioned in the reply to an RTI application, in possession with Millennium Post, hardly 6 percent of the forms are verified by the cops.

“Most of the tenants hail from other states, including northeastern states. In this case, verification is done with the help of the state police. We send a request to the concerned police station of that state and after a few days they revert back to our request mentioning whether the document submitted is genuine or not,” Mandeep S Randhawa, DCP (south-east) said.
