No compromise on law and order: UP CM

UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav reiterated that his government would not compromise on law and order and would take stern action against people disturbing communal peace.

‘The government is keeping a close watch on all developments since Samajwadi Party came to power. Strict action is being taken against the guilty people and all efforts will be made to maintain communal harmony,’ the Chief Minister told reporters.

Reacting to the comment of former Chief Minister Mayawati that law and order had deteriorated in Samajwadi Party rule, Yadav said she was making false allegations because of the growing popularity of his government.

‘During the Assembly election we had made a commitment to improve law and order in the state and we are moving in that direction. My government is working for the welfare of Dalits, farmers, students, women, minority and unemployed. The former Chief Minister seems to be envious of these achievements and therefore has issued such false statement,’ Yadav said.

The state government is getting a lot of flak over repeated communal tensions in different parts of the state. In the 8-month rule of the SP government, the state has witnessed almost a dozen communal clashes. This has given opposition parties an opportunity to criticize the Akhilesh Yadav government.

In her statement, Mayawati said that the crime graph of UP had gone up with the coming of SP government in the state. She said that people were now missing the BSP rule. She had labelled UP ‘crime pradesh’ on Sunday.
