The day after a 57-year-old former badminton player attempted suicide by consuming drugs in Vasant Vihar area, police refused to lodge any case in the matter. The victim was depressed after her house was sealed by MCD and the family claimed that police was under political pressure.
Sources said the victim, Chandra Thakur, gave a statement on Friday. Chandra is undergoing treatment at All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). She was found unconscious near her flat located at Vasant Vihar on Wednesday evening. She had written a suicide note on the wall of her flat, blaming three MCD officials and neighbours, who were allegedly harassing her.
A police officer said, ‘She generally used to take sleeping pills but on the day of the incident, she took more than usual. The case is in high court and she does not want to lodge any complaint against anyone.’
Discarding claims made by police, Chandra’s husband Surender Singh Thakur said police was under political pressure to not lodge a complaint. ‘I don’t know whether they have taken statement from my wife or not. But my wife was in depression due to MCD officers and our three neighbours. Their names were also written in her suicide note,’ he said.
Chandra, a state level badminton player represented Kerala, wrote a suicide note on the wall of the sealed flat claiming that she was committing suicide because of three MCD officials—Executive engineer JS Yadav, Assistant engineer Bhusan Kumar and Junior engineer Sunil Kumar—of Green Park office.
She had also named a couple, Monika Dhingra and her husband Krishan Kumar Dhingra who are the neighbours and Roma Sikka, president of the RWA of the area.
Chandra’s husband Surender Thakur, who is a former hockey Olympian, lives in Libya.
