A day after L-G Jung suspended babus over ‘Clean India’ campaign failures, Delhi’s education secretary Anindo Majumdar admitted there was no cleanliness in government schools. He also informed that as many as 224 schools have been notified with inadequate toilet facilities. Majumdar further said Directorate of Eduaction has devised a 28-point inspection proforma for schools on which reports are given by the inspecting teams.
Elaborating on the quality of education in its government schools, he said a committee was set up by the Delhi government to assess it. However, he refused to divulge the details of recommendations of the committee. “The statutory committee has submitted its report. The government will definitely work on it”, he added.
The eight-member committee, headed by former Delhi chief secretary Ramesh Narayanswamy, set up 18 months ago had faced flak for reportedly holding 180 meetings, spending over Rs 19 lakh and subsequent delay in submitting the report. Refusing to comment on the expenditure issue, Majumdar said he was not aware of the details. He also stated in the last three months 19 schools, to be built at the cost of Rs 345 crore have been sanctioned by the government.
