No business like food business

Update: 2014-01-19 16:45 GMT
Delhi is a city of foodies. You won’t find a single person in this place who doesn’t like his/her food and doesn’t have at least five favourite food joints spread across the Capital. And this is not just Delhi - we Indians take our food very, very seriously.

So 2013 was replete with a good number of new joints opening up, but 2014 has big plans of upping the act. Almost paving way for newer food trends this year, Executive Sous Chef of The Imperial - Chef Prem Kumar Pogaluka says, ‘When it comes to nutrition I’m a data junkie. I spend about an hour a day reviewing the latest research to keep up on what’s on the cutting edge, and as a nutritionist I love exploring new products and observing emerging trends.’

He points out that organic food - sustainable, local and organic will remain the order of the day and with sophisticated palates around the world increasingly looking for new taste sensations, manufacturers are growing a market that offer flavour crossovers such as chilli and chocolate, sea salt with caramel, strawberries with fava beans, oyster and kiwi. This year’s food shows will include a range of exhibitors showcasing unexpected flavour combinations that taste terrific says Pogaluka.  Inspired by a very popular property in New York, Monkey Bar opened shop in the national capital recently. Nestled well in Vasant Kunj, away from the malls and in a swanky glass pyramid (rumour has it that this was where Ministry of Sound used to be, but that was before my Delhi time so am not going to assert) - Monkey Bar is definitely a place every Delhiite should check out.

With seating at three levels, a very cool bar and a foosball table, Monkey Bar is a great place to hang out with your friends. Oh! And kids aren’t allowed in after 6 pm (win-win for those who like to chill without kids running around). Do try their insane cocktails- especially The Copper Monkey, the Narangi and the Mangaa (Aam Panna and Vodka) and keep an eye out for the quirky coasters. The coasters make drinking up all the more fun.

And you cannot miss the MoBar burger, the literal baap of all burgers you would have bitten into in all these years with lettuce, cheese, bacon, onions, tomato, mayo and burger seasoning - 300 gms of awesomeness! The Goa Chorizo Pao and the Tiger Beef are also a must try along with the Butterfly Chicken and the Bang Bang Prawns - but do not miss the burger. You will regret it!

If you still have space for dessert do try the Chocolate Pot De Crème with Salted Caramel - total thumbs up from us and/or  the MoBar Sundae Sandwich. And when heading to Monkey Bar - make sure you are with a whole group of friends - that place is meant for some great fun. A meal for two with alcohol is priced at Rs 1800 (without taxes) and totally worth the moolah. Book yourself a table this weekend!
