Nithari accused Koli may be shifted back to Dasna Jail

Update: 2014-09-15 22:50 GMT
As Supreme Court has stayed the execution of Nithaki killings convict Surinder Koli till 29 October, he might soon be shifted to Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad from Chaudhary Charan Singh Jail of Meerut till further order of the court.

Dasna Jail officials have revealed that there is a strong possibility of his shifting as hearing of some other cases related to Nithari killing is going to take place in CBI court in Ghaziabad but he also added that the state government will take a final call on the matter.

It may be noted that after issuing death warrant against Koli on 4 September, he was shifted to Meerut Jail next day as he had to be hanged on 12 September. When jail authority had started preparing for his execution, the apex court stayed it for one week and later extended it till 29 October.

According to jail officials, the next hearing of another case related to Nithari killings at CBI Court is on Monday for which Koli might be produced before the judge. If he is brought to Ghaziabad, he will be put in Dasna Jail only as hearing for other cases will also be held in coming days.

‘He is still kept at Meerut Jail. We have not received any information regarding his shifting but we will co-ordinate with the concerned officials,’ said a jail official requesting anonymity.

Koli was shifted to Meerut Jail because there was no facility for execution in Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad.
He was convicted for the murder of a girl, Rimpa Halder, who went missing from her home in Nithari village in December 2006. After a police investigation, she was found to have been murdered by Koli. During the probe, the skeletal remains of many other children were recovered from a drain adjacent to a house in Nithari, a village in Noida where Koli worked as domestic help for businessman Moninder Singh Pandher.

Both Koli and Pandher were sentenced to death, but later the Allahabad High Court acquitted Pandher and upheld Koli’s death sentence. Koli’s then filed a mercy petition before president which was rejected.
