Nine killed, 10 injured in Thane building collapse

At least nine persons were killed and 10 others were injured, after a four-storey building housing 20 families collapsed in <g data-gr-id="22">Thakurli</g>.

The building ‘Matruchaya’, built 35 years ago, collapsed on Tuesday night at <g data-gr-id="24">Cholve</g> village, following which rescue operations were launched by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade officials and civic authorities said.

Kalyan <g data-gr-id="25">Tesildar</g> Kiran <g data-gr-id="26">Surwase</g> said that till now nine bodies have been pulled out of the rubble.
Rescue operations have been hampered due to continuous rains, said District Disaster Management Control Room in-charge Jaideep <g data-gr-id="20">Visave</g>.

At the time of collapse, 20 families were inside the building. Santosh Kadam of Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) said that some more occupants could be still trapped beneath the debris.
The injured have been admitted to a local hospital in Dombivili, <g data-gr-id="21">Visave</g> added.

District Guardian Minister <g data-gr-id="19">Ekanth</g> Shinde, Kalyan MP Srikanth Shinde, Collector Ashwini Joshi and other top officials are monitoring the rescue and relief work.
