As four suspects were detained by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) in connection with the Hyderabad twin blasts on Friday, mystery shrouded the arrest of one Manzar Imam, a suspect who was caught from Kanke in Ranchi district on Monday.
A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Ranchi police arrested Imam on Monday.
Whereas Senior Superintendent of Police Saket Kumar Singh in Ranchi refused to specify on which terror incident Imam has been nabbed by the NIA, Superintendent of Police (City) Vipul Shukla said the NIA had arrested Imam in connection with the twin blasts in Hyderabad’s Dilsukhnagar that had left 16 people dead. However, there was no official confirmation from NIA on the arrest.
Later the agency and the police produced him before the Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday and got permission to take Imam in five-day transit-remand, another senior police officer said, adding Imam would be taken to Eranakulam in Kerala for interrogation in a bomb blast case. Assisted by the Ranchi police, the NIA team had nabbed Imam at Kanke on Monday while he was going to his house at Bariatu in the state capital, the officer said.
The NIA and the Anti-Terrorism Squad have been searching for Imam for the last two years in connection with bomb blasts in Ahmedabad and Kerala and came to Ranchi several times looking for him in the past.
NIA sources said that they have detained four suspects on Friday in connection with the Hyderabad blast and that they have been put under interrogation. ‘They are most likely involved in the Hyderabad incident,’ the source said.
