The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to Delhi Police’s commissioner following a media report that due to carelessness of police an accused remained in the illegal judicial custody for about two months.
Kotwali police station of central Delhi district, arrested one Irfan in a case of kidnapping, produced him before the court on the 15 June, 2014. But without getting extension for his judicial custody, the police sent him to jail for about two months.
The commission observed, ‘the contents of the news report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of the right to life.’
Accordingly, a notice has been issued to police commissioner calling for a report within four weeks’, the NHRC statement added.
