National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday issued notices to Delhi government and police and sought reports in connection with a case where a man and his pet dog were electrocuted by a live wire in a park of North West Delhi recently.

According to an official press release, notices have been issued to the Chief Secretary, Delhi Government and Commissioner of Police, Delhi calling for reports in the matter within four weeks.

The notices were served after the Commission took suo motu cognizance of a media report that neglect by the concerned authorities resulted in electrocution of a 26-year-old Gaurav Rana and his dog by a live wire in a park of North West Delhi on January 18.

Allegedly, the family of the victim had repeatedly complained to civic authorities about the wire but no action was taken.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, amount to serious
violation of human rights of the victim due to sheer negligence on the part of civic authorities, the statement said.
