NHPC powers Q2 profit by 72.62% to Rs 1,180.84 crore

State-run NHPC on Monday posted 72.62 per cent jump in standalone net profit to Rs 1,180.84 crore for the quarter ended on September 30, 2015, on account of higher income from operations.

"The company has posted a net profit of Rs 1,180.87 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2015 where as the same was at Rs 684.10 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2014," NHPC Ltd informed BSE in a filing on Monday.

Total Income was Rs 2679.44 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2015 where as the same was at Rs 2325.01 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2014.

The company is mainly into power generation business. Its sales or income from operations increased to Rs 2,334.24 crore in the quarter under review compared to 2,086.01 crore in the year ago period.

 However, the company said that in view of the seasonal nature of business, the financial results of the current quarter may not be comparable with previous quarter of current year. 

Earlier, taking stock of operations of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and NHPC, Union Minister Piyush Goyal had called upon their managements to increase their efficiency and raise capacity to the highest level. The Minister for Power and Coal also appealed to the state governments of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh “to forget and sink their differences for the overall development of the people of the region”, according to an official release here.
