NHPC GM rescued from militants after gunbattle

In a daring operation, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh police managed to rescue kidnapped senior official of a government power company from the clutches of militants. According to agency reports from Itanagar, after 51 days of captivity, NHPC General Manager Anil Kumar Agarwal was rescued from a dense jungle in the Assam-Arunachal border after an encounter with National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB)-Sangbojit group militants. The rebel outfit had demanded Rs 20 crore as ransom for the release of the official, the police said.
