Taking cognisance of the reports pertaining to waste dumping in Aravalis, the National Green Tribunal has directed the Gurgaon and Faridabad district administration to seize vehicles dumping construction, industrial and medical waste in the Aravallis and impose a penalty of Rs 5,000.
Hearing a case in this matter, the NGT observed a that “every person who is found to be throwing muck or waste in the area, the authorities are at liberty to seize the vehicles and impose a cost of Rs 5000”.
The Tribunal also said that any dumping in the Aravalli forest areas along the Gurgaon-Delhi and Gurgaon-Faridabad roads or any other part of the Aravali Forests will be a clear violation of its order dated January 22 that directed authorities to stop throwing waste in the forest area. The NGT further directed the police commissioners of Gurgaon and Faridabad to “ensure that directions issued by the Tribunal are fully complied”.
Seeking the compliance report in the next hearing, the Tribunal said that there should be proper check points at the beginning of the roads and entering towards the Aravalli Hills.
The court pronounced this order on the plea of Vivek Kamboj, who runs Haryali NGO, and Amit Chaudhery of People for Animal. Commenting on the order, Kamboj further said that they will independently monitor the implementation of this order.
“The district administration has demonstrated non-compliance of the law regularly. And has actually tried to mislead the courts, as well as the public, while destroying pristine and protected landscape. We cannot allow destruction of our forests by those who are callous and show dereliction of duty”, he added.
