New top cop failing to curb crime in city?

Update: 2016-04-29 00:09 GMT
Despite several meetings and instructions given to the force, Alok Verma, Delhi Police Chief, completely failed to curb the crime rate in the national Capital. Rather, there is a 10 per cent surge in the crime rate since he took over charge and around 17 per cent increase in heinous crimes, reveals a Delhi Police data.

Verma took over the charge as Delhi Police Commissioner on February 29 and since then he has sidelined the media. His priorities were to focus on ground work, better policing and to reduce crime in the city. But it seems that he has failed in his attempts to make Delhi crime-free.

According to the Delhi Police data (in possession with Millennium Post), till April 15, as many as 56,071 FIRs were registered while in 2015 during the same period 50,281 FIRs were registered. In the first two months of this year, when BS Bassi was the police commissioner, as many as 30,363 FIRs were registered under different sections of the Indian Penal Code and after Verma took over the charge, in 46 days, 25,708 cases were registered. So there has been a rise of 10 per cent in the crime rate.

Similarly, in the last 46 days (March 1-April 15), there has been a rise of 17 per cent of heinous crimes in the city and in these days around 1,281 cases have been registered for heinous crime. These crimes include dacoity, murder, attempt to murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping for ransom and riot. This year, till April 15, a total of registered cases for heinous crime are 2,675.

Earlier, as many as five rape cases used to be registered in a day whereas, since March 1, on an average, six rape cases are being reported. Till April 15, 578 rape cases have been registered out of which 279 cases were registered in just 46 days (March 1-April 15) while 200 cases were registered in the first two months of the year.

Even though Verma has made motor vehicle theft as one of the major priorities of the Delhi Police, the data reveals that he failed to curb it.

In this section, till April 15, this year, 11,276 cases have been registered against 7,912 cases in 2015 during the same period.
