The fight over covering an open drain led to firing in Noida, which sent three people to the intensive care unit (ICU) and injured more than 12 people.

On Sunday morning, at around 9.30 am, a drain was being covered with iron grids in Sultanpur village in Sector 130 to make a connecting road over it. A resident of the area Ravidutt Tyagi objected and prevented the labourers from doing so. But his neighbour, Devkaran Tyagi, who benefitted from the project, opposed him. Soon, over 12 people gathered to watch the fight. The dispute led to scuffle and stone pelting. Meanwhile, Devkaran allegedly came out with his licensed gun and opened fire. Seeing this Ravidutt also allegedly brought a gun and opened fire. According to sources, several rounds of bullets were fired by the time police reached the spot.

According to the police, over one dozen, including a woman, were injured in the fight.

Three people – Ravidutt, Sonu and Hari Om – in their mid-20s received major bullet injuries. They were rushed to government district hospital in Noida but were referred to a hospital in Delhi due to their critical condition. The injured have been identified as Devkaran, Sube, Yogesh, Shrawan, Arvind, Ravindra, Jairam Jaikumar, and Kundan.

‘We have detained over two dozen people from both sides but they have not given any written complaint so far,’ said G P Yadav, Inspector, Sector 39 police station area.
