This year too, North-East Lok Sabha constituency remained on the top with a voting percentage of 69.8 per cent in the national Capital on Saturday. Last year, in the Lok Sabha elections too, constituencies under north-east Delhi recorded highest voting percentage of 66.60 per cent.
Since early morning, enthusiastic voters stepped out of their homes and voted. By 11 am, north-east
Delhi recorded 22.5 per cent and by 1 pm, it has reached to 39 per cent and it was around 54.45 per cent till 3 pm. At the end of day, 69.8 per cent polling was recorded from the north-east Lok Sabha constituency. North-East Lok Sabha constituency also has the maximum number of minority voters amounting to almost 20-25 per cent.
Youths, including the first-time voters, were more keen to vote. “Today, I had an exam in Faridabad but in the morning it was cancelled because of the election. I am a first-time voter and I want to vote for change,” said Yakshika Rawat (18).
In Mansarovar Park area, which comes under Rohtas Nagar constituency, youths were found engaged in proving pick and drop facility for the senior citizens residing in the area. “We had a tie-up with Senior Citizen Association in Mansarovar Park area. Two days ago, during a special meeting regarding elections, we had announced that a mini-bus will be available to pick and drop the senior citizens.
Accordingly, since morning, elderly people gathered at various junctions,” said Amit Mitra, a resident of DDA Flats in Manasarovar Park. He is a final year student in Delhi University.
“I want Kiran Bedi to be my Chief Minister, so I will definitely support BJP. I know if she will be in power, BJP MLAs will have to work very hard for the betterment of the people,” said Sanjay Kumar (44).
As a whole, AAP wave could be easily felt in North-East Lok Sabha constituency covering Burari, Timarpur, Seemapuri, Rohtas Nagar, Seelampur, Ghonda, Babarpur, Gokulpur, Mustafabad and Karawal Nagar.
