North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has taken a lead in providing facilities during Chhath Puja celebrations in the city. The standing committee of the corporation passed a budget of Rs five crore in its meeting on Thursday to provide necessary infrastructure in its area to the worshippers.
‘The budget for Chhath Puja was abolished by the commissioner after tri-furcation of the civic body. We have proposed to allocate Rs five crore to spend for the Puja through an amendment in the budget of the current financial year,’ said Yogender Chandolia, Chairman of the Standing Committee in NDMC. The committee also passed an additional budget proposal of over Rs 130 crore for the current financial year.
The four-day Chhath Puja will start on 19 November this year. According to the officials of the NDMC, several ponds and ghats in the six zones of the North Corporation where people celebrate this festival by worshipping Lord Sun.
