Acting on the demand of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to remove some ‘ineligible’ members of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) appointed during UPA regime, the union human resource development ministry has terminated the membership of only Virginius Xaxa from NCTE General Council.
However, the HRD ministry is yet to act on the removal of rest three members in question, despite the fact that there are charges of plagiarism against Professor Janaki Rajan for her PhD thesis, one among three members under the scanner. Sources in the HRD said that Professor Virginius Xaxa, who is associated with Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati, has already tendered his resignation from the council, which is yet to be accepted on the ground that the matter is pending with Law Ministry.
