A group of Naxals stormed into a mining area of state-run NMDC in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district and allegedly set a poclain machine on fire, police said on Thursday. ‘A group of Maoists raided 14 deposits of National Mineral Development Corporation, located in the interiors of Kirandul’s Bailadila mining area late last night and torched the machine engaged in excavation work,’ a senior police official told a news agency.

On sensing the presence of naxals, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel rushed to the spot and opened fire on the rebels following which they fled to core forests, the official said.

Later, police personnel were sent to the spot, he said. In another incident in Bailadila, Maoists removed fishplates from a railway track in a bid to disrupt train services on Kirandul-Jagdalpur-Visakhaptanam route.
