VIT confers Life Time Achievement Award on DRDO scientist Reddy

Distinguished DRDO scientist and Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister Dr G Satheesh Reddy was presented with GCMM (Global Congress in Manufacturing Management) Life Time Achievement Award by VIT University on Saturday.

The award was presented by  GV Selvam, Vice President, VIT University, during the daylong workshop on Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, organised at the inauguration of ASM International Student Chapter at VIT, Vellore on Saturday. Presenting the prestigious awardGVSelvam said that VIT was glad to confer the award on the eminent scientist of the country, who is serving the Defence Ministry.

Vice-president of VIT University said that 'Make in India' plan has given a boost to the country's economic growth and India achieved sixth position among the top manufacturing industries across the globe.

India is keen to increase the contribution of the manufacturing sector to 25 per cent of GDP by 2025. "Also, the country is planning to increase the resources by creating 9 crore job opportunities," Selvam added.

he pointed out that a huge investments worth of  $ 225.32 billion has been received by India during the 'Make in India week' from February 13-18 held in Mumbai to attract FDI. 

It is a matter of pride that industrial houses like GE, HTC, Toshiba and Boeing committed to invest in India.

Selvam appealed to the scientists gathered at the workshop to share their views on India's progress in manufacturing sector.

Inaugurating the daylong  workshop and inauguration of ASM International Student Chapter, Dr G Satheesh Reddy released the Newsletter and thanked VIT for presenting the award. He stressed on the need to develop relevant manufacturing technologies, which industries must take up.

Reddy handed over the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award to Dr S Narayanan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, VIT University.
