New Delhi: While the CBI's probe into the Unnao rape victim's accident picks up pace, the trial in the previous cases involving the rape allegedly perpetrated by MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his associates will begin on Monday (August 5).
The Tis Hazari court that has been assigned to try the Unnao cases registered by the CBI last April, has also asked rape accused Sengar and his co-accused, Shashi Singh, to be produced in court on Monday at 12:30 pm. The court has issued a production warrant for both.
While the case was still in Lucknow, the Central Bureau of Investigation had last July filed a chargesheet against
Sengar and Singh for the rape of the teenager.
After the special court in Lucknow had taken cognizance of this chargesheet and two others filed by the central probe agency, the trial did
not even begin for more than a year now.
The Supreme Court of India had earlier this week taken suo moto cognizance of the case and directed that the cases be transferred to a Delhi court, where the trial was to be finished within 45 days.
Soon after, the court of judge Dharmesh Sharma at Tis Hazari court complex was assigned to hear the cases on a day-to-day basis.
However, the Apex court had said that the accident probe must remain with a Lucknow court till the CBI finishes its probe in the matter.
