New Delhi: Stressing on the need of a joint effort by all the world powers to explore the universe for the survival of humans, schoolchildren have urged scientists to discover the possibilities of life on other planets as well. Raising the issue, students pointed out that till the United States would not back the Paris Accord, it would be too hard to control and mitigate the rapid climatic changes.
"We have exploited it in every way possible and have made it in incompetent for sustaining our posterity. The depletion of natural resources like fossil fuels and water is a major cause of concern," said Himanshu Kumar Jain, a Class XII student.
Citing the fact that heating of Earth has increased the average temperature, Jain, a student of DPS RK Puram, said, "With the increase in the use of air conditioners and refrigerators, the emission of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) has also increased, resulting in the damage of ozone. Also, the carbon dioxide emissions have risen by almost 19 per cent since 2000, which is a matter of huge concern."
Drawing the attention of environmentalists, Jain, a student of DPS RK Puram, said, "The 2013 Uttarakhand flood is the best example to prove what would happen if these changes are not controlled and are unforeseen. We have to explore other universe and discover planets or asteroids which could possibly support life and provide us with some necessary resources," said Aryan Jaira, a Class IX student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Rohini.
