New Delhi: Pursuing its line of enquiry into the role of state police officials in alleged evidence tampering in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund case, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday interrogated IPS officer Arnab Ghosh in connection with some crucial evidence gathered in the probe.

The CBI had summoned the IPS officer, currently posted as the CO in the West Bengal State Armed Police's 2nd Battalion, to question him with respect to certain "missing evidentiary materials", specifically a red diary and a USB drive, which was recovered from premises of the Saradha Group by the state SIT early on in the probe.

CBI officials in Kolkata specifically asked Ghosh about who directed him when he was part of the SIT and about evidence that the agency now claims is missing, during the two-hour questioning. Ghosh was the Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) and handled the case directly, when he was part of the state Special Investigation Team, comprising officers from the Biddhannagar Police Commissionerate.
